They say they’ve got this! (But… do they really?)
Just a few weeks ago, something big happened in the world of college admissions…. but chances are, it flew right under your radar….
And honestly, who could blame you?
If your summer was anything like mine, it’s been about juggling the chaos of keeping everyone fed, organized, and maybe—just maybe—sneaking in a little fun.
Did your calendar give you a heads-up? (Or was it just collecting digital dust?)
If you missed it, you’re not alone. Here’s the scoop: In August, early action college applications opened across the country. This is *the* moment—the most thrilling (or nerve-wracking) time of the entire application season.
This is the window of opportunity most parents and students overlook. It’s the best chance to secure your senior’s spot at their dream school…
Before anyone else even starts thinking about it.
And here’s the thing—colleges LOVE go-getters. They want students who are ahead of the game, the kind who are more likely to finish what they start.
So, applying early is a huge advantage.
You might already know this, but colleges are businesses first and educational institutions second. They’re constantly making decisions to stay afloat.
In fact, did you know that in the past decade 24.6% of all college closures in the US happened in the Southeast? Hodges University (FL) was one of 22 that closed this year alone. Yep, that’s the reality.
So, when it comes to admissions, colleges have to be strategic. From August 1st to mid- or late-October, they’re laser-focused on filling their rosters with top-tier candidates before other schools snatch them up.
Out of the 4,000 colleges in the country, all major colleges do this, including those in the Southeast, Midwest, and Northeast… And yes, I’m talking about big names like Chapel Hill, Clemson, and Purdue.
These schools want to pick from the crème de la crème. They’re not interested in the procrastinators. (Hint: those are the same students who just might never finish their degrees).
Colleges are hunting for the best, the most organized, and the highly proactive—basically, students like yours who show they can get it done.
Take UNC-Chapel Hill, for example. Their early admission acceptance rate is 13 points higher than the regular admission period rate. Thirteen!
That can be a game-changer for a student on the edge...
Wouldn’t you love to see your child have a 13-point boost simply because you’re ahead of the curve?
Now, I know your schedule is packed—Friday night football, sunrise breakfasts, and SAT prep. But trust me, you’ll never have more time than you do right now to get those applications in.
Admission officers are still fresh, the seats are still open, and the financial aid pot is still full.
Imagine your teen kicking off their upcoming winter break with acceptance letters in hand. By getting everything done early, you’ll be able to enjoy senior year with your kiddo—less stress, more memories.
So, did your calendar ping you?
If not, consider this your friendly nudge to get those essays done and applications submitted during early season.
