The workshop runs Saturday and Sunday — a mix of teaching, guided exercises, and actual writing time. We’re a small group (10 students max, and many cohorts have only 3-5 teens), so every student gets real attention. And if you're in the Charlotte area, students are welcome to join me in person.

This isn’t a month-long bootcamp with a large team. No faceless editors on some platform.

A lot of students spend late nights Googling “best college essays that got acceptances.” I understand why. But it’s unhelpful at best — and confidence-crushing at worst. Their story isn’t “out there.” It’s in them.
I say this toward the end of every workshop. I have a lot of experience. But this is your teen’s essay — their deepest story, the one they most want to tell. My job is to help them find and relate the story that is genuinely, specifically theirs.
The feedback feels like a conversation.
When I’m editing, I’m shooting video walkthroughs and leaving audio notes — talking through the draft the way I would if I were sitting next to them. It’s personal. It’s direct. And it’s theirs to respond to, push back on, or take in a completely different direction. (And, yes, many students leave the experience better writers than when they started.)
This is what I call Pocket Coaching — and it’s available after the workshop closes until their essay is done.
No artificial deadline. But I do encourage every teen to finish within three to five days of the workshop ending. Momentum is everything. And I let them know that an essay they’re deep inside is a lot easier to finish than one they put down for two weeks and have to restart.
“Editing” is way more than proofreading.
Between the workshop and Pocket Coaching, I typically spend two to three hours on each student’s essay — touching it five or six times, back and forth. I’m thinking about the narrative arc, the insights they’re sharing, whether there’s enough vulnerability, whether the story is landing the way it needs to.
Think less “teacher with a red pen” and more “book editor working with a first-time author.“ We start this work together in the workshop. Then I make sure it actually translates onto their page — because for almost every student, this kind of writing is brand new. I tell them: when you’re new at something, I don’t expect you to run at record speed. We crawl first. Then walk. Then jog.
I’m with them on the track each step of the way.

Yay, I love that you're eager to get started! Your teen can hit the ground running by watching the "Discover Your Best Topic" mini-workshop video, which I'll send via email before the weekend. They’ll have the flexibility to pick a 60-90 minute window to complete it, giving them plenty of time and space to think through their topic ideas before we dive in on Saturday morning.

Before your teen can effectively use AI (if at all), they need to understand what makes a standout essay. A great college essay has a unique point of view and a strong, individual voice—it sounds like it was written by the teen themselves. As advanced as AI is, it’s not designed to capture the individuality and unique voice that colleges are looking for in an essay.
The problem with AI is that it pulls from the "average" of what it finds on the internet, which leads to common, vanilla (no mint chocolate chip here), and predictable (i.e., boring) essays—definitely not what will set your teen apart.
Plus, colleges use AI (developed by a Princeton student) to detect essays written by AI, and those essays are usually the first to get a "no thank you" rejection letter.
While AI is great for some things (and I’ll show your teen exactly how to use it in the workshop!), writing a unique and engaging college essay isn’t one of them. That’s where Complete Your Essay in a Weekend comes in—I’ll help your teen find and share their deepest story, and I’ll even teach them some AI shortcuts that can help them safely along the way. We’ll use AI to enhance creativity, not replace it.

If it’s a strong draft, we’ll uncover the “magic” hidden within it, polish it up, and turn it into a new and improved version—one they’ll be excited to submit and never want to go back to.
That said, in my experience, no junior-year essay fully captures a teen’s story in the compelling, engaging way it needs to. While they may feel their essay is “good enough,” once they see how much more they can say with my guidance, they won’t look back. My goal is to help them create an essay that doesn’t just meet expectations, but stands out to Admissions Counselors and sets them apart.
An “A” paper in English isn’t typically the kind of writing that earns acceptance letters or scholarships. Sadly, students aren’t usually taught how to craft the kind of personal, authentic essays required by the Common Application prompts. As the person who knows your son or daughter best and who has been with them during so many pivotal life moments (even the seemingly inconsequential ones), you have invaluable insights into their unique qualities and life experiences. While your teen may seem deaf to many of your suggestions, I know your reflections can play a pivotal role in helping them uncover and express what makes them truly stand out.
Once you enroll your teen in the Complete Your Essay in a Weekend workshop, I’ll provide quick, fun, and strategic exercises for you to complete together. Because these exercises come from Easier College Essays (and not directly from you), your teen is more likely to engage with you to complete them.
Do them all…or just one.
Either way, once the workshop starts, they’ll thank you!
Your reflections will support them to more clearly see and express their uniqueness in their topic and the stories they tell. Making their essay deeper than it might otherwise have been without your help.

Once you sign up, your teen will receive a link to join our private Slack group. Here, they can message me directly with any questions, schedule conflicts, or anything else that comes up. After compiling their draft from the workshop, they can easily drop a link to their essay in Slack and request feedback or help. This is our communication hub. I’ll get back to them within 24 to 48 hours—often even quicker.
After 5 pm on the final Friday, I’ll give your teen’s essay one last review to ensure it’s polished and perfect.
Then, it’s celebration time! 🥳 Their deepest story is beautifully crafted and ready for submission!

I believe in this process so much that I want everyone to succeed.
Have your teen work through the BONUS “Discover Your Best Topic” mini-workshop video to get the ideas flowing. Then, have them join us live on Saturday morning to finalize their topic and start writing. If, for any reason, they don’t want to continue after the Saturday morning session, just reach out before we start the afternoon sessions, and I’ll cheerfully refund your money.
It’s completely normal for most teens to feel a little nervous at first—they don’t know anyone yet, they don’t know me, and it all might feel new. But by the time we hit lunch on Saturday, they’re usually feeling much more at ease, laughing during our group work, and appreciating the focused writing sessions that help them make real progress on their essay.
Have them stay with us through the weekend, meet with me one-on-one to finalize their topic or discuss any concerns they might have, and dive into my proven systems and techniques. If, by the end of the weekend, they don’t end up with an essay they’re proud of, just reach out, and I’ll help them get it back on track. I’ve got you and your teen covered, from draft to DONE!
